This week's #EMchat is sponsored by NAGAP.
I transitioned into graduate enrollment management four years ago, after working in undergrad for 8 years. The transition has been a great experience and I'm so glad I did it. However, I will say that I felt like I was on my own little Grad EM island until I discovered NAGAP (@NAGAPorg) about 6 months ago!
So, what is NAGAP? The National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals is the only professional organization devoted exclusively to the concerns of individuals working in the graduate enrollment management environment. The mission of NAGAP is to support, advance, and engage graduate enrollment professionals by promoting integrity, excellence, and collaboration through education and professional development.
So let's rewind to 6 months ago when I felt like I was on my own little Grad EM island. I was on my way back to Austin from another conference and overheard that NAGAP was hosting their conference in Austin. On a whim, I decided to attend on a one-day pass to check them out. I am SO glad I did. Not only did our 1st #EMchat Tweetup happen during that visit, but I met a ton of other Grad EM professionals who had the same struggles and issues I had without having to translate the difference between the undergrad and graduate environment. I left feeling connected, motivated and inspired by a group of people I only knew for 8 hours.
I was so impressed by the organization that I became a member and I am now volunteering on the Research and Global Issues Committee.
For those of you who are reading this post and are not a Twitter user, don't worry! Lorena Shank (@LoreShank), a fellow Grad EMer and NAGAP committee member, has created this prezi just for you: "What is Twitter?".
If you have never participated in a Twitter chat, we have that covered too! Marcus Hanscom (@MarcusHanscom), another fellow NAGAP committee member, created this YouTube video to show how you can follow along: [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peni3xnSkwg?rel=0&w=640&h=360]
I hope to see all of the #EMchat community participate this Thursday. If you are not on Twitter, and have questions about getting started, shoot me an email! If you are on Twitter and have a question, send me a tweet: @EMjennielle.
See you in a couple of days!
